Christmas Share (yes Christmas!)

Tuesday 27 August 2013

I participate in a monthly swap with some fellow demonstrators and our first month's theme was Christmas. I know it seems early, but it really isn't too early to think about Christmas. I got some fabulous cards in the swap - it makes going to the mailbox so fun each month as the cards are mailed separately.  You never know what wonderful surprise is going to be in the mailbox from day to day.

This was my swap card.

I used the Mosaic Madness Stamp Set (Item 130249) that coordinates with the Mosaic Punch (Item 131267).  This makes perfect little ornaments.  I embossed Whisper White Cardstock using the Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder (Item 129984).  Add a little Bakers Twine to make the ornaments look like they are hanging.

This was my first card using Washi Tape.  I used one of the designs from Seasons of Style (Item 132155) and love how this turned out as a background for the sentiment.

We'll be making this card in my Christmas Stack-a-Stack on November 2nd.  Come to my event and you'll go home with 15 cards (3 cards of 5 designs) with envelopes for $25 and will have a good start on your Christmas Cards.  If you're interested in registering for this class, email me.

Stay tuned for some other sneak peaks of my upcoming classes, including my Birthday Card Class on September 14th.

Though we guarantee even the most novice of stamper will enjoy creating these cards and tags, given the complexity of some of the projects, we suggest children under the age of 15 sit this one out.

*Please note that "clear mount" requires clear acrylic blocks (not included) for positioning and usage. (Please bring your own to the event)  "Wood mount"  are natural feeling maple wood blocks - similar to 'traditional' wood-mounted stamps from yester-year.  Once you have selected your stamp mount preference and completed your registration and received confirmation, your mount preference can't be changed.

In Colour Samples

Sunday 18 August 2013

I hadn't tried out any of the new Stampin' Up! In Colours, but had some sympathy cards to make.  Never an easy thing to have to send, but I'm really pleased how they turned out.  I think that Baked Brown Sugar and Crisp Cantaloupe are my new favourite colours.  I love how they look together.

For the first two cards I used the Serene Silhouettes Stamp Set.
This card incorporates the Baked Brown Sugar 3/8" Ruffled Stretched Trim
I love the new Pretty Print Embossing Folder

For the last card I used the Field Flowers Stamp Set.
I used a two step stamp process for the flowers - the background shade is Crumb Cake and the top colour is Early Espresso

I think I'll be using these colours more often!

Trying my hand at Mixed Media

Thursday 15 August 2013

At the Stampin' Up! Convention this year Carrie Cudney challenged everyone to "Live a Creative Life" and showed us some of the Mixed Media piece she had worked on.  They were fabulous and had everyone excited to try it when we got home.

Here's one of the Halloween pieces she created (sorry for the quality of the image).  I loved all of Carrie's creations!

Finally I got around to trying my hand at this.  It definitely is a little out of the box for me - I have always considered myself crafty, but not really artistic. I searched for Christmas Mixed Media images to get some inspirations and found a great tutorial from Christy Tomlinson (http://christytomlinson.typepad.com/christytomlinson/).  I decided that for my first attempt I would use her Christmas tree tutorial with the supplies I had on hand - paper, buttons, stamps, bubble wrap, twine, etc. (I didn't buy anything except canvas, Modge Podge and acrylic paint - it's a great way to use up your scraps of paper).  I'm pretty impressed with how this turned out.  One note is that don't give up part way through, the more layers you add, the better it looks!

For my second creation, I created a snowman using the same techniques as I had used on the first one.  I liked how this one turned out as well.   It's missing some arms - I still have to go looking for a couple of twigs to modge podge on.

This is definitely addicting and there are so many more things you can do to layer, including adding some texturing mixture to add depth.  On my list for the next one - stay tuned!
